AI regulation is changing faster than the annual review cycles most enterprises were designed around. The EU AI Act has entered force and is moving through phased obligations. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act has activated. The NIST AI Risk Management Framework has been adopted as the de facto reference architecture. ISO/IEC 42001 has published. Sectoral supervisors — banking, insurance, healthcare, employment, public sector — have issued or sharpened their own AI-specific expectations. Customer-facing risk frameworks, third-party assurance regimes, and internal-audit standards are tightening in parallel. Inside any individual enterprise, a single AI system now sits at the intersection of several of these regimes simultaneously, and the regime-mapping is moving even while the system itself is moving. Policy-as-code, continuous control monitoring, automated evidence collection, machine-readable risk registers, and event-driven re-evaluation when regulations change are engineered in — so that the cadence at which the firm's compliance position can be refreshed matches the cadence at which the regulatory landscape itself is changing. The annual gap analysis pattern — assemble the position, present it to the audit committee, file it, repeat next year — is engineered out, because the regulatory regimes the firm now operates under do not give it that much time.

A single AI system inside a global enterprise may simultaneously be a high-risk system under the EU AI Act, processing personal data under GDPR and DPDP, subject to model-risk-management expectations under banking supervision, exposed to PHI under HIPAA, and contractually committed to customer-specific assurance obligations.
